The only part of the inner pot that touches the outer pot is the top lip that holds the inner pot in place.

This pot can make three gallons of the stuff. The clad bottom makes this double boiler fairly efficient. It has a thick heavy bottom and feels like its very well made. A standard home made batch is two gallons of milk and this works perfect.
