It is not the best for an exhaustive list of hotels and restaurants, but it is the best for introducing you to a local. It's lovely, the streets lined with thatched cottages, and it has a castle to boot. Many of these buildings still have their original features, including doorknockers, fanlights and wrought-iron balconies.

There are maps of Dublin-in the section, which are very detailed. The guide is nice and floppy when you open it as well and that's always a giant plus.

The pages are strong but lightweight and the book will fit easily in a larger purse or backpack.
