This model has a very bright head band and side illumination which make it more visible to others at night. The mid and high output modes are impressively bright. It doesn't need to be very tight to stay put while sitting around. The battery pack is super easy to charge via USB and has a LED charge level indicator. The petzl core rechargeable battery's material feels more premium than its price would suggest. The light beam on the Actik is much better for short to medium range lighting distances compared to the Black Diamond which seems better for medium to longer distance. It works great and the battery lasts long. It does not have any kind of silicone or rubber seal around the battery compartment. The BDR can be switched to lower or higher brightness at any moment by simply holding down the power button where the Actik must be turned off and then turned back on to begin cycling through the brightness options. It also has a dim red light that will not disturb a horse's eyes or another human.

The Petzl case fits this headlamp well. It is great headlamp for reading, running or outside work. The Actik turns on at the lowest brightness setting which is perfectly acceptable unless you're running out of battery power.
