This is an alpine style harness. It's constructed from quick-dry nylon webbing. If you're using a figure-8 style descender, you can clip the carabiner directly to the harness and it sits in the right orientation "automatically" without need for extensions. It's so nice not having to deal with the strap coming up your neck or thru the safety harness hole. The clip style leg loops make getting in and out of this one pretty easy, even over bulky clothing since you don't have to "climb" into this rig.
They can use these for bouldering, rock wall, and basic top rope learning. This also means the strap is out of your way for shooting. It's a great harness if you need to put it on over bulky gear, but it's much less "fiddly" than typical climbing harnesses.
Why We Like This:
Much lighter, less cumbersome, works great
Far superior option to the standard full body harness in both comfort and safety

The petzl alpine mountaineering harness should be able to handle its purpose and duties with ease. The Altitude is a lightweight harness with a simple design that allows you to don the harness without taking off your skis or crampons. It includes a protective carry bag, and a foam-free design helps the altitude fold down to smaller than a water bottle. It is designed to be put on with your feet (and crampons and skis) firmly on the ground, and the altitude boasts a feature set that makes it a great fit for most ski and mountaineering objectives.
