The Rovners are fairly flexible and can fit Zinner, Vandoren, Rico Reserve, and most standard "stock" mouthpieces. This ligature features a metal cradle which can be altered to create six different tones, as shown on the linked page. The cradle is designed to sit on the reed, and the screw will tighten against the mouthpiece. This allows the largest and smallest adjustments to fit every reed and player.
The Rovner 1R is more flexible, and takes on the shape of the mouthpiece. It offers wide tonal control on a given mouthpiece for correct tonal quality, (and elimination of squeaks and register break issues) when a player's embouchure is not quite yet fully developed. This ligature performs differently (desired) and equally well with all of them. The V 1 firmer hold not as free flowing expression takes more air and breath support and the mout needs to be accurate to hold tone.
