If you like listening to a scanner, this is the one to get in a dangerous situation that really doesn't require encryption. It is a basic 10 channel scanner that works great for local police, fire, and rescue scans. The 436 can listen to basic encryption on analog devices or the more advanced p25 digital trunking encryption. As far as the large display goes, the letters are very narrow and very thin and very crowded.
