It comes in good shape but will need to be flattened and sharpened. The rough body increases friction between the plane and work piece. It can be used on some walnut, no problem. There is no aluminum on this tool. The sole is flat and 90 degrees to the sides. It comes with two blades and it is normal for hand tools. The machining is decent.

The cardboard is thin, and tends to deform while the package is being shipped.

It will take more to get to the slight hollow of the center. The iron out of the box requires some sharpening. There’s still a minimal hollow spot on the toe and heal but the sides are flat and smooth from front to back. This plane has a flat sole.
