This set of Yoyo Ma's playing is such a gift from the Maestro himself. It is pleased to present the classic cello collection, a box set celebrating the legendary american cellist yo-yo ma. It includes half the Bach suites. There are also two discs of Ma's solo Bach suites (not necessarily a first choice, but very well played) and, surprisingly, only one disc of Beethoven.

This is a wonderful set of Recordings. The set features great works from the classical cello repertoire with compositions by 23 classical composers. This is excellent music to play while working. It is very enjoyable and relaxing.

It is amazing that these recordings still sound so great. This is even evident in the monaural recordings of three of the Symphonies, which are a tad more flexible than their stereo counterparts. There is some semblance of placement of the instruments on a stage.

The sonics are of course not the equal of what you'll get today, but many of the recordings still sound remarkably good, even the early stereo from the 1950s. This has been put together with the characteristic Cleveland Orchestra thoroughness. It is easy to read and pull out. There are easily twice that number of recordings in the box.
