The Scotty mount is rigid enough to support a reel with 600 feet of 3/8" polypro line. These are secure, and are a little higher and further forward than where the rear mounted gimble mounts are. The rail mount works very well on the top rail on a pontoon boat. It has multiple holes for the mounting bolts so there are many options for mounting bolt configuration. The clamping system will not tighten sufficiently to prevent the rail mount from rolling.
