The dave black drum method book is suitable and reliable and fits well with your daily usage. There are a LOT of methods for teaching drumming, and many methods for learning. These books and CDs are a MUST for any aspiring student of drumset percussion. It lays out the grooves and fills in an excellent sequence from simple to intermediate, to advanced level material. It'll get you playing the basic rock beats, fills, and some jazz too.
The few fills it has are'meh',but great for learning rock/pop beats. It comes with CD if desired, which makes learning the grooves even faster for students without a private teacher. If you are looking to hone and strengthen your technique then this book will definitely be one to own. It approaches wrist strokes, accents within rudiments, and syncopation. This book really helps to remember and work on your rudiments. It really gets to the core of the methods and techniques to help guide you to playing music on this instrument. It is great for teaching the fundamentals. This book displays a great concept of how to apply rudiments to music and how to identify which rudiment in a pattern.

Benjamin Podemski line of book come in a pretty wide variety of styles, so you can definitely find one that suits your individual preferences and needs. It is great for the orchestral percussionist. The notes are inverted to begin teaching the beginer how to read upside down, as fellow drummers will know you will do alot of this type of reading when you play the drumset. It is the best way to learn how to play and read. These are fun and descriptive.

This is one of the best beginner drum books around. It, along with a great band instructor, makes drumming make sense in pretty short order. There are also exercises throughout the book that put things together into a composition appropriate for all that preceded it. This is the standard in teaching new students. This book is a must for beginers.
