They do not have a sponge type fabric on both sides, but a rough flat exfoliating pad on the other side. It works well with bar and liquid soap as well as scrub crystal. The netting is tightly woven to the pad so it does not unravel. The loofah side is great but the reason for only 4 stars is that the back side is really stiff and even when wet is difficult to bend and to squeeze the water out.
