The zoom shotgun microphone might be a relatively new release, but it's still nothing short of impressive this year. Zoom's unique system of interchangeable input capsules allow you to always use the right microphone for the audio recording you're creating. It has a great super cardioid patter that picks up clear discernible vocals from 10 ft to 10 ft. Even if it makes a slight hiss (higher noise to signal ratio than the built in xy mic) it is still a great mic. It allows you to capture a fully mono-compatible stereo image that can be adjusted during recording or in postproduction, making it ideal for film, video, and television projects.

The Rode appears to be designed to feed a camera's onboard audio recorder. It is a capsule mic so it has to stay with the h. The included windscreen does a good job at preventing the wind from messing up the recording. It sounds a lot better, and whatever noise floor that is there can be removed in post easily.
