Next on the list, we've got yet another hatchet that manages to win our hearts. It's the gransfors bruks hand hatchet and it's widely considered as hatchet that has the most suitable features. This hatchet is a great tool to have for spoon and bowl carving. The blade is beyond razor and this tiny almost weightless hand hatchet does jobs that other blades would choke on. It has a very attractive sheath with a belt loop. The heads are mechanically hammer-forged by trained smiths from recycled steel (old Saab engine blocks, probably) and as such every one made is unique. It comes with a nice sheath and can be carried in a back pack very easily.
The fact it is a gransfors bruk that automatically tells you its hand made, top of the line and will arrive razor sharp. The quality is excellent, and the hand forged and tempered blade really holds a sharp edge.
Why We Like This:
Perfect size for the space between bushcraft knife and camp axe
Great hatchet for camping, hunting etc
Well packaged, came with a nifty pamphlet, superb craftsmanship, well made / functional

If you want nothing but the best desirable hatchet, then gransfors bruks gransforsbruks hatchet is the one you should definitely consider, as it manages to bring a lot to the table. Hand-shaped, this wonderful piece of wood truly compliments the traditional nature of the rugged hand-forged hatchet's head. The Gransfors has a thicker, and actually about a quarter inch shorter, handle, and it has a rougher feel. The shape of the sheath, which covers the edge and the top part of the poll, also stops the axe head cutting into your rucksack. The handle is very rough and looks unfinished in comparison to the small forest axe also pictured.
This tool is an heirloom quality workhorse. It is perfectly centered wedge with nice mushroom. It's a safe sharp, but not shaving sharp. It is also great for limbing and for splitting kindling and firewood.
