The landroid base and boundary wire have to be connected for the unit to operate. It will not try to mow closely around the object because it has no way to know the shape or size of the obstacle. If the gate can be left open all the time or during the times the mower is scheduled to run, it is very easy to run the wires through the gate into the next area.

One way to fix this is to put a sod strip in the soft section of the lawn. That part gets a little tougher but it’s designed for it & can do it as long as your wire is ran properly & there’s no elevation issue due to the walkway getting the robot stuck & you program it correctly.
