The evans resonant head should be able to handle its purpose and duties with ease. This drum head is for the resonant side (the front of the drum) and the batter head is on the side that the pedals are on. It allows the player to adjust attack and focus. The resonance and tone are awesome outside on pavement on the gig mat. It allows the air in the drum to escape. The hole comes cut out with what they call a plastic "sleeve" and muffler around it. The head leveles out and tunes really easily. If you don't need it, it does allow more air flow to escape the resonant head, which makes it a better sound for the audience.
