The tram marine vhf base station antenna is suitable and reliable and fits well with your daily purpose. This is only an antenna with a simple base, the antenna will mount on a standard top of mast cutout but it doesn't provide any support for the windex or vane. It includes the rail mount, antenna, and wire. It is good for backup on a sailboat or primary on a powerboat. This one possibly could be mounted higher due to it's lower wind load, and that would help.
This is a standard fitting for a fixed mount Marine VHF radio only. It is really well designed and constructed. It comes with a good cable, too.
Why We Like This:
High quality antenna, made in taiwan, stainless steel construction
Low swr and very close to 50 ohms through entire band

The tram plastic mount's superior materials makes sure that it ages well with use. The Antenna works great, looks great and installs easily. It can be unscrewed at its base from the ratchet mount. The cable needs strain relief, a drop of white silicone glue will work. The plastic mount is flimsy and hard to loosen or tighten, have to use a wrench, and the handle will not work. It is easy to install, the cable provided is quite long.
The antenna itself is very stout and heavy. The cable is attached to the antenna mast just above the antenna base. It is a very good antennae, it doesn't flop around like the 6 footers and it has plenty of range on the open ocean. It should serve to lower your SWR to protect your finals and may even improve performance.
Why We Like This:
Easy installation and they send along several different base swivel accessories for different applications
Great replacement antenna for inshore boats
Plastic base and mounting configuration is pretty flimsy

Next on the list, we've got yet another antenna that manages to win our hearts. It's the tram-browning marine vhf base station antenna and it's widely considered as one of the best convenient antenna you can buy. This antenna is a simple dipole with an impedence matching device at the base which ( combined with the physical length) optimizes it for the marine vhf frequency region. It really puts out a strong signal. The base of the antenna is set up to attach to a tube or railing with a u. It comes with an l-shaped mounting bracket. The set screw that secures the whip into the base is prone to vibrate loose. It is built to last, all stainless steel. This is not a 6 dbd gain antenna but is the same as any other base coil matched 5/8 wavelength whip.
Why We Like This:
Great space saver for small boat
Super easy to set up and swr was great across the entire band

We would, of course, be remiss if we didn't mention antennamastsrus marine vhf base station antenna for daily purpose. If you are on the fringe of a radio station broadcast area it will improve the reception and it will bring in stations the radio’s internal antenna can’t receive. This one works as good as the factory one for the front stereo. It is made out of rubber so it is flexible yet it is stiff enough so it will not wobble around in rough seas. It has a threaded base to go thru and allow the nut to attach.
This one is short enough and flexible enough to not be damaged by the boat cover and not be in the way when using the boat. It is a total of 15" tall including the base. It is easy to replace and very good quality. It is a marine quality am/fm white mast and chrome base antenna.
Why We Like This:
Good reception while not being very tall, it pivots and is flexiable
