This game is brilliant simply for presenting itself for what it is, a Mario game that pays homage to the old while pressing forward for a new generation of gamers. The gameplay in Super Mario 3D Land is very intuitive. The controls are snug as usual, very vibrant and colorful environments, great music as always, and somewhat bares a resemblance to Galaxy. The controls are also very simple and easy to master on each level, as you leap from block to block, and hopping in pipe to pipe, all trying to make your way to the goal.

The gameplay takes all the elements from the classic Mario games in both 2D and 3D like Super Mario 64, and giving them a 3D twist by having you race against the clock trying to make it to the goal before time runs out. There are two modes, which you can switch at any time. The Fire suit is best for clearing out enemies or an enemy that is far away from you. The level design is exceptional and the journey to the end pole is so fun and satisfying. The Boomerang Suit and Propeller Suit also adds to the fun, as you can hit enemies with boomerangs and be able to fly upward for a bit, respectively.

The game features typical "Mario & Luigi"-style cartoon mischief, involving jumping and hammer attacks on enemies. The characters are neat and the personalities of them make the game much more enjoyable. There are hours of gameplay and a great and intriging story. The music is pretty good for a video game and defeating the game the first time through unlocking a jukebox that allows you to play the music like an mp3 player.

The gameplay is fun and the combat is very fun. There are also special Luigi moves that involve mini games like rolling up Luigis, to give the moves more power. A map on the bottom screen is helpful for finding out where to go or what hasn't been explored, and enemies are completely visible, meaning there is no chance of ever encountering them out of random. The humor is outrageously funny by the way, and the game looks absolutely gorgeous on the 3DS.
