The dbx mic pre for electric guitar's material feels more premium than its price would suggest. The sonically pristine dbx 286s mic preamp has all the features you need, including wide-ranging input gain control, switchable +48v phantom power, and an 80hz high-pass filter to remove low frequency hum, rumble or wind. It is great for studio quality mic preamp/channel strip processor. It is a full-featured channel strip processor that delivers a studio-quality microphone/instrument preamplifier and four processors that can be used independently or in any combination. The audio enhancements take your voice and give it that broadcast "radio guy" sound.

There are also walking tour guide sound systems consisting of a head-worn mic connected to a battery powered loudspeaker worn over the shoulder or on a belt. It also shows an option for a specific cable so that your mic will always record into both channels, and you won't have to mess with the settings in DAWs / software. The noise-gate really does an excellent job is keeping room noise out of your recordings. This is an untreated room with vaulted ceilings and somewhat close walls plus no carpet or curtain, with background white noise.

Why We Like This:
  • Vo's essential tool for time saving
  • Easy to tune two amps subs and mids highs
  • Delivers what they promise

The presonus tube preamp's superior materials makes sure that it ages well with use. If you are a solo folk music performer this is the ticket to a great sound on your voice. It's an admirable mic preamp and has a nice classic look with that old style vu meter. It features, it’s small enough to carry almost anywhere—or simply screw-mount it to a standard rack tray. The ART has a guide for standard settings/tones for different signals.

A dual-servo (no capacitors) gain stage lets you boost the signal to smoking hot levels without significantly increasing noise. The treble is "airy" for lack of a better word, with no hint of harshness. There is also an LED clip indicator that lights up at +20 dBu.

Why We Like This:
  • Colors the sound just enough, a little warmth but not over the top
  • Boost the signal nicely, the tube adding thickness and a bit of color
  • Mostly used for audio recording with a digital audio workstation
  • Adds richness and depth to voice recording

For someone without a big budget, this is a great way to be able to have decent quality tube preamps on a lot of drums. It's clean and quiet, very transparent and the tube effect is very subtle (unlike some of the cheaper starved plate preamps out there) unless you push it very hard. It's literally just opening up the device, pressing down on the tube covers and twisting and unlocking them.

The Mid Side recording is very powerful and fun to use and your signal will always be in phase. The controls are intuitive and the sound is excellent. They are pretty nice and sound good for acoustic guitar. The tubes are interchangeable, so there is the possibility of finding a better, or more suitable to one's needs tube than installed from the factory. It adds plenty of flavor to your mics, and the tube effect is very subtle (unlike some of the cheaper starved plate preamps out there) unless you push it very hard.

Why We Like This:
  • Great for the small studio on a budget
  • Distortion and runs extremely clean until it reaches a point of saturated clipping
  • Good brand reputation

Presonus has been making great pre for years, thanks to a combination of clever design and appropriate materials. It offers far and away the widest variety of tone-shaping capabilities of any preamp in its class. • Combo mic/instrument inputs with class a xmax mic preamplifiers and 48v phantom power
  • Added in the t-12ax7-s vacuum tube for a slightly warmer sound
