It is a fascinating glimpse into the creative process of the Quintet and especially their leader Miles. It is a chance to hear some of the best musicians in the history of jazz work their magic as they approach some tricky tunes. It includes full session reels including all rehearsals, partial and alternate takes, studio conversation and more.

The CD set is excellent and old jazz recordings are done better. These tracks are newly mixed and remastered in high resolution audio. The provided booklet is outstanding for a little more depth to what you are hearing. This volume will be heard by quite a few fans as a low point in this series of releases. It is not for the casual listener, but as something to sit down with, and give your undivided attention, it is pure gold.

With a very tasteful artistic presentation, in-depth liner notes, and brilliant-present-lifelike sound, this box is really a special treat for music lovers. The dual electric pianos of Hancock and Corea provide more washes of sound and tone, slowly converging on the "sonic wallpaper" heard later on In A Silent Way. They contain very interesting information, so they are a must-read, except for the over-extended, boring and even insulting song descriptions.

This box set lives somewhere beneath a wave of adjectives like "greatest ever" "amazing" and "un-friggin' believable. It's a real pleasure listening to them as they were originally played. The music on this set is so open and free, to wait for the melody to miss the point. It is a must, even if you just like "In A Silent Way.

The mile davi cd box's material feels more premium than its price would suggest. This is truly one of the greatest jazz albums of all time. Like all the boxes in the series, this one, the final one of the 8 boxes, is rich with information, art and photos. The boxed set is a vast exploration into the sessions which produced On the Corner, Big Fun and Get Up With It. It features complete track listings, session details, and boatloads of liner notes and photos.

The whole 6 cd set is included with a 120 page booklet that's a quick read as half of it is pictures and various drawnings, info and credits about the 'On The Corner Sessions. The sound is great through out and the book is entertaining. It is also the 8th box chronologically.

Compared with other products by Miles Davis, the mile davi cd box has a convenient design. If you are a Miles davis fan, and have yet to start a collection, this is a great way to get the majority of miles' output, with the exception of the prestige and warner brothers, early and last recordings. It's a thrill to hear the music and history together from someone who actually is there for many live performances. The mix still sounds quiet and muffled, like it is recorded from a styrofoam cup instead of microphones. A lot of the recordings from this era are live & feature long, drawn out pieces of music with a lot of soloing, touches of Indian music, & are heavily guitar & drum driven.

Aside from these though, it's an amazing set with everything any Miles lover could wish for. The collection is packaged in one box with a well designed cover, so you can have it sitting out, easy to get to. It will help fill in the blanks, and there is even a nice video presentation of a Miles Davis performance.
