It uses the same type of iso butane fuel as a backpacking stove so its a perfect companion in your pack. It is bright, lightweight and 100% reliable. The hanging chain is generous (guessing 18") and is stainless also. The bottom portion is machined aluminum and the upper parts exposed to high heat are stainless steel. It gets hot so keep away from things that will melt or burn. If you plan to use it as a tabletop lantern then the chain will just get in the way and will make it more like to snag and tip the lantern.
