The head shell that comes in this kit is a bit longer with some weight taken out to compensate. It doesn't muffle them at all, just a bit smoother. It will blow the ortofon mm carts out the water any day of the week. It has a nice, balanced sound (warmer than many carts, yet really detailed), great imaging, and tracks wonderfully.
