The mullard great tube is exactly that - it's a simple tube that hits all the right notes. The Mullard is a high-gain tube, and sounded exactly the same as the Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH and Sovtek 12AX7WA. It has shorter plates which will help alleviate microphonics and noise. It is a high gain, low noise valve with a short plate structure for reduced microphonics. Compared to the Tung-Sol, or the Ruby 12AX7 H5, this is far superior, at least in this amp.

With the gain at about 2 o'clock, the crunch is sweet, and feedback is very harmonic. They are way way too bright and harsh on the mids and high end, with hardly any bass. The tone of the amp is very warm, both at low and high gain. With this tube, the real crunch doesn't come in until the gain is about halfway up, which is perfect.
