Best Overall: Audiotechnica Replacement Stylus

If you often find yourself scrambling for good stylus, this should be your first option for buying. This replacement stylus must only be used with a corresponding cartridge from audio technica. It's a great economy stylus. The sound is not exaggerated at all and has a really deep and natural sound. The HIGHS are not harsh at all and are nicely laid back, but not weak.

The audio technica cartridge does a top job with an excellent end result. It comes with a cap that covers the stylus. It's a replacement for broken stylus, easy to swap out.

Why We Like This:
  • 50000 hz which gives it much more range and better sound reproduction
  • A great improvement in sound with the new needle installed
  • Star for accuracy, sound quality and value

Best For Polystyrene Vinyl: Audiotechnica mil conical Replacement Stylus

This stylus is really well suited to playing this kind of record. It fits half-inch mount turntables plus the benefit of conical styli, even if the cartridge is lean, because the ball surface of the stylus touches the groove of vinyl records precisely. It's a bit on the "cool" (as opposed to "warm") side and also a bit bright compared to vintage Shures and Stantons.

These have around 500 hours for a conical stylus, 300 hours for an elliptical stylus, 1000 hours for a microlinear stylus, and 800 hours for a shibata stylus. They tend to sound better because of the way conicals hug the groove walls. The sound is well balanced. It often picks up more noise and imperfections.

Why We Like This:
  • Sounds great on new vinyl, too
  • Good brand reputation

Best For optimum audiophile reproduction: Audiotechnica mil Elliptical Nude Stylus

The audiotechnica mil elliptical nude stylus is capable of outshining several other products featured in this list in overall features for the price point. This Vm95 series cartridge with 03 x 07 mil elliptical nude stylus fits half. It features a nude elliptical diamond. The high end is spectacular and it’s ability to play the subtle resonances of stringed instruments is like the musician is right in your room. The stylus guard is poorly designed, fits very loosely, and slips off at the slight provocation. This cartridge, as is the case with the nagaoka cartridge, is clearly intended for higher mass tonearms.

This is a beautifully designed cartridge and stylus system that will compliment any turntable. Compared to the Orto Red, this cartridge has a more refined, subtle response that is true without added bass. They make taking off and reattaching the tiny wires much easier and lessen the likelihood of breaking a wire or scratching things up over a normal set of pliers. It's so perfect in every way.

Why We Like This:
  • Mid range and bass is perfect
  • Delivers what they promise

Best sounding Cartridge: Audiotechnica Great Stylus

This microline stylus starts to sound worn out, like a used elliptical stylus. It is designed for compatibility with the vm530en cartridges. It is a very nice elliptical stero needle. The spectrograph shows that the frequency response is respectably greater than specified. It is easy to replace the stylus and continue to use your cartridge.

The stylus works perfectly, fitted to the above turntable. The sound profile is analytical neutral with a touch of brightness, and excellent soundstage/separation. The cartridge becomes worn after an extended period of play, even the finest diamond stylus.

Why We Like This:
  • Mid and bass improved, still detailed with a more mellow high frequency range
  • Lot of satisfied buyers

If you're looking for a nice replacement stylus for the vm95 cartridges this is very much a worthwhile contender. It offers a powerful output level of 5.5 mv, and its 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical bonded stylus tracks the record groove with high accuracy for outstanding audio reproduction. The output is higher, and your 90 times less likely to do stylus or suspension damage when bouncing back and forth between LPs and 45s or however you play your music.

This is a tie wire that you will see on not only most DJ cartridge stylus assemblies but also higher-end audiofile assemblies with more extreme stylus profiles. You will find that you need less anti-skate and it's a far superior stylus to use on old beater 45 records and the like. The sound is robust. You'll find that your tonearm "behaves" much better on this turntable with a lot less stylus wobble due to tonearm cartridge mismatch that was noticeable with the standard stylus assembly, not that the vm95e isn't any good it surely is. It helps the suspension by keeping it precise and taught.

Why We Like This:
  • Replacement stylus for at-xp5 dj cartridge
  • Good brand reputation
