The strathmore oil pastel sheet is suitable and reliable and fits well with your daily purpose. This paper allows you to blend colors easily. It has a toothy surface to which the chalk pastel can adhere to, as opposed to a smooth surface like bristol or some of the watercolor paper surfaces. The lightly coloured ground makes it possible to use less pastel to achieve a uniform background colour, allowing more direct colour layering in the painting.
The paper is porous and will take chalk pastels. It does have texture, designed especially when pastels cling to the surface. There are different colored pages through out the pad. It is great for learning pastel medium, dry and oil. It is available in most art stores as well as chain stores.
Why We Like This:
Good for drawing and keeping memories
Great for a beginner looking to experiment
Handles the blending and rubbing well and stays fairly firm during use

The strathmore pastel paper's material feels more premium than its price would suggest. This is a pastel mat colored paper and is great with colored pencils, pastels, pastel pencils and some mixed media. It allows the mediums to stay on the paper and gives off different kinds of textures. The lightly coloured ground makes it possible to use less pastel to achieve a uniform background colour, allowing more direct colour layering in the painting. It uses this pad all the time to draw.
The paper colours are great, and this pad is a good size to bring to your life drawing classes, for when you get that urge to break out the pastels. This is great for pastel, pencil, and paint. If you are new to pastel painting, know that this paper is suitable as well for chalk and soft pastels. This is a great size that will urge you to consider doing larger pieces that can be "Gifts" or on display at a Show.

Not everyone likes to purchase sheet for their daily usage, but the swr oil pastel sheet would be an anomoly. The high-precision sanding surface can hold a lot of pastel layers. It's water resistant and allows you to add quite a few layers of pastel. It uses a high-weight substrate board that prevents warping in wet conditions and resistant to acrylic, alcohol and oil.
It is great medium for pastels, and 500 grit holds many layers of pastels. Based on a great substrate, it works well on wet or dry underpainting.
Why We Like This:
Weight substrate board that prevents warping in wet conditions
Special and meaningful gifts for your artist friends

If you want nothing but a sheet that is satisfactory, this uart oil pastel sheet is certainly a worthy investment. The UART paper is a highly useful surface for use when making pastel paintings. It accepts many layers of pastel also so you can have depth in your painting. The 400 grit holds several layers of pastels. It has the perfect amount of tooth. The black paper makes it easier if youre doing an evening or night scene.
The UART paper performs amazing, it takes many layers of pastel and the sanded surface allows for that and a thick smooth application of pastels. It will have a tendency to curl but is easily overcome by mounting the paper onto a more sturdy surface. These are great for stick pastels, harder to use pan pastels on this paper.
Why We Like This:
Holds multiple layers of both hard and soft pastels
