Best Overall: Royal Ram Clean Sand

Royal Ram Clean Sand

The royal ram clean sand is long-lasting, rigid and fits well with your daily purpose like a dream. It's just plain, natural sand. It looks and acts like sand. It is perfect for filling candle jars. It's clean and easy to use. It is suitable for various arts and crafts projects.

This stuff is pretty nice since it doesnt shock (turn clear resin white) the resin. The grains are a bit larger than sugar. It can stand thru so it can stand through anything.

Why We Like This:
  • Clean sand perfect for filling candle jars
  • More course than hourglass sand, nice texture for crafting
  • Lot of satisfied buyers

Best For Discus Tank: Carib Sea onyx Sand

Carib Sea onyx Sand
Buy on Amazon

For a German Blue Ram tank, this sand is perfect for a German Blue Ram tank. It looks really light and pretty and natural. The color of sand is a nice light tan color that looks and feels soft and very fine. It will literally sparkle/shine and become the centerpiece for any room. It comes with a liquid that makes the water crystal clear after you put the sand in.

It's more tanish white than just white colored but its still good sand. This is a really fine sand though, it's soft and not at all harsh.

Why We Like This:
  • Fine-sized, clean, and very natural looking
  • Very natural-looking and came clean with minimal rinsing
  • Natural sand great for your fish

Best With corydoras: Stoney River onyx Sand

Stoney River onyx Sand

This sand works perfectly for the bottom of an axolotl tank. It is great sand and looks great for aquascaping. It stays in place and does not make the water dirty, the sand is also very soft and it’s gives the tank an amazing natural feature. It is inert and does not change your water chemistry.

This stuff looks great till you get an algae bloom and it gets dark and ugly. It is ideal sand for all marine and freshwater tanks. The sand is more like the consistency of powdered sugar. The bag is small, but the quality of sand is good.

Why We Like This:
  • Safe for fresh & saltwater environments
  • Just makes sure to wash it at least 6 times
  • Super messy, delivered with holes in the bag, and keeps floating to the top

Best For Plants: Seachem planted Aquarium

Seachem planted Aquarium
Buy on Amazon

The seachem planted aquarium's high-end materials makes sure that it ages well with use. If you put a layer of Onyx Sand in before your main substrate, the Onyx sand should be easily hidden by the rim on most tanks, and your plants will be able to leach vital nutrients from the Onyx. It looks and works great but even when washed 5 times and then baked in the sun it will cloud your tank for around. It provides an advantage to any plants able to utilize bicarbonates.

The substrate is a nice mix of coarse gravel with small and tiny pieces. It is easy to plant with, easier than gravel. It is easy to clean but watch your flow or you’ll have dust storms, highly recommend rinsing before use. This is very good for planted tanks.

Why We Like This:
  • Specially fracted porous substrate for the aquarium
  • Great stuff for plants, bad for sensitive shrimp
  • One of the new comers and featured product

Best For mixing With soil: Royal Ram onyx Sand

Royal Ram onyx Sand
Buy on Amazon

The royal ram onyx sand is suitable and reliable and fits well with your daily usage. If you have been looking for true coarse sand for indoor custom potting mixes, this is the size you need. It’s just the right size of sand pieces. It's good for mixing with soil. It's good for drainage and good value for money.

The sand is perfect for rooting plants. They don't compact and thus the water would have plenty of air pockets and almost fall directly to the bottom. It is good for mixing with soil. Bonus that it has no added chemicals or nutrients for sensitive plants/root systems.

Why We Like This:
  • Perfect for filing vases and adding water
  • The right size coarse sand for potting mixes
  • Good investment for long term

Best Quality substrate: Seachem onyx Sand

Seachem onyx Sand
Buy on Amazon

The seachem onyx sand should be able to handle its purpose and duties with ease. It's so much easier to add plants to than normal gravel or the other variety made by seachem which you have a hard time keeping a plant in. It is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any freshwater aquarium environment. It is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium.

This is tiny pieces of clay that hopefully will not turn to mud. It is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the ph of the water. It's really easy to get the plants to stay down when planting too.

Why We Like This:
  • Wonderful sand and so soft too
  • Made it very easy to add plants
  • Looks awesome and should last forever
