Jane yolen owl pop up book is the epitome of what a great book should be. Jane Yolen's charming, short, and quiet story is so beautifully complemented by John Schoenherr's watercolor illustrations that it's as if they had some sort of mental telepathy with each other. It is the kind of book that will capture the imaginatioin and wonder of children as they feel as if they are going owling as well.
The illustrations are beautiful and the language is very poetic for a children's book. The use of watercolor creates a sense of mystery and depicts what it is like to walk in the woods on a winter night with no more light than what is given off by the moon and stars reflecting off of the snow. Animals are quietly present throughout the story, concealed by their muted colors, just as one would expect when walking through the woods at night. It is a wonderful story which could be shared in both the classroom during read-alouds or at home as a bedtime story. This is a very descriptive book dose and a really good job at setting the scene and putting you on this journey with them. Why We Like This:
- Beautiful storybook for kids of all ages
- Great gift to new parents or for a birthday
- A quiet, snowy nighttime walk looking for owls
- Magical encounters with nature for father and daughter
