This emitter has some small bumps or ledges on the INSIDE of the lower ring that are exactly 3 1/2" across from each other, allowing it to slide OVER a 3 1/2" outer diameter pipe. It is held shut by gravity. It will fit nicely on a maximum 3.5 inch pipe. The kit has fittings that will accept S40 at that end with no adapter needed.
