Best Overall: triple Eight increased Protection

triple Eight increased Protection
Buy on Amazon

Not everyone likes to purchase gear for their regular usage, but the triple eight increased protection would be an anomoly. If you fall on your tailbone, you can still get quite a shock if you fall on your tailbone. It might offer a nice seat if you are sitting on a hard surface, but It's not going to really soften and disperse impacts enough to prevent bruising or breaks. The overall quality of these pants is definitely only so-so whereas the quality (if not necessarily the effectiveness) of the G-form pants is very good.

It is made with a lightweight lycra mesh fabric, these crash pants provide a form-fitting and extra comfortable fit, while the breathable material is quick dry, and won't stick to the skin. The tail bone could use a little thicker padding. The L fits perfectly and the padding isn’t too thick. It offers an adequate amount of protection.

Why We Like This:
  • Covers all major parts of the lower body
  • Comfy & not bulky at all
  • Fairly low profile and you can never have too much armor

Best For So cal snow: Soared Protective Body Gear

Next on the list, we've got yet another gear that manages to win our hearts. It's the soared protective body gear and it's widely considered as one of the best convenient gear you can buy. These are a life saver for new snowboarders. It feels more like boxers with three protective pads that are sewn onto it. It has pads around butt and hip. The 1.5 cm thick eva padding provides overall protection for your lumbar, butt, crotch and thigh. These are well made, low profile, comfortable, and protect all of the right spots plus more.

These pants help with every fall along the way. They are a bit bulky and take a while to break in but the padding is great and you don't really notice the bulk once you get going. This butt pad will prevent most of the pain, but won't make you any better.

Why We Like This:
  • Delivers what they promise
  • Good investment for long term

Best For beginner: KUYOU Protective Body Gear

We know from years of feedback from readers, customers and amazon sellers, what most people want in a convenient and appropriate gear. The kuyou protective body gear is exactly that - it's a simple gear that hits all the right notes. It is great for learning to snowboard. It definitely protects your tailbone but it's not low profile at all under snowboarding pants. The padding on them IS extremely thick which can be both a pro and a con. The pads help cushion falls when snowboarding, but the mesh is definitely itchy when touching skin.

The material is lightweight and soft to wear inside or outside pants. The padding on them is extremely thick which can be both a pro and a con. It is a good support for your knees.

Why We Like This:
  • Not too bulky looking under a skirt either
  • An extra 1/2" of insulation between you and the hill
  • Delivers what they promise
