Not everyone likes to purchase machine for their daily usage, but the singular sound rhythm wolf drum machine would be an anomoly. The BeatBuddy enables you to have live control of the beat while you play your instrument, like jamming with a drummer. It opens up some really great possibilities to improvise by adding crashes or'startstop' beat pauses. It also sounds great through a regular speaker via the phones 1/8 jack into a bluetooth speaker or cabinet. It's a dark bar that moves across the screen in time to the beat.

The sound quality of the drums is very good and the concept and use is good after you spend some time learning how to use it. It does have tons of metronome beats. It will allow any midi-capable looper to sync perfectly with the drum beat. This pedal style is a bit more intuitive and easy to use.

Why We Like This:
  • Easy and intuitive to use and you can constantly add more beats to it
  • More robot-perfect timing needed to keep your loop in time

Best For synthwave: Sonicware rhythm Wolf Drum Machine

Sonicware rhythm Wolf Drum Machine
Buy on Amazon

We would, of course, be remiss if we didn't mention sonicware rhythm wolf drum machine for regular usage. The sounds are much more complex than you'd expect out of a $240 portable drum machine/bass synth unit. It is equipped with over 350 high-quality rhythm sounds carefully selected for modern dance music. It has a built-in sidechain compression function that ducks the volume of the bass and the line-in audio. It includes reverb effects and it is accessible when the edit mode is active.

The built in speaker does a sufficient job for its size. It does midi, it'll sync with a volca, or 'audio sync. The sound is much more complex than you'd expect out of a $240 portable drum machine/bass synth unit. The case is a 'bathtub' style.

Why We Like This:
  • Build your own sounds from scratch or modify the presets
  • Three sequencer effects you can use to turn your sequence into a performance
  • Solid keys, and while hollow feeling, it feels sturdy where it counts

Best For rock: Roland Drum Machine

Roland Drum Machine
Buy on Amazon

The roland drum machine is suitable and reliable and fits well with your regular usage. This drum machine is very difficult to use with very strange drum rhythms. It offers all the acclaimed sounds from boss' flagship dr. It takes a little browsing through the manual to do certain things, it's not entirely intuitive, but spend a minimal amount of time with it and it is easy to understand.

Some of the orchestral percussion instruments are very nice, such as the sleigh bells & the triangle. The time correction feature works very well in the event that your button pushing is a little sloppy. It's not hard to program jazz drum parts in real time because you can slow the tempo of the machine down to a crawl if you need to while playing the individual drum set instruments in real time.

Why We Like This:
  • Delivers what they promise
  • One of the new comers and featured product

Best For performance: Zoom rhythm Wolf Drum Machine

Zoom rhythm Wolf Drum Machine
Buy on Amazon

The zoom rhythm wolf drum machine might be a relatively new release, but it's still nothing short of impressive this year. A very versatile machine, there's still a lot to learn from this unit. It's easy to use. It is easy to set, but the drum tracks are so easy to program and it is really nice to practice with different beats and temps to learn new ones. The preset verse / bridge / chorus to build songs are mediocre at best so learning the "step" approach is important. It works for performance and to a limited extent for recording.

It is clear the box is so small that there is no way it could have been included. The sounds are very nice and the touchpads are very usable if you've got an understanding of drumming. If you are going to use the zoom for jamming then it's a great little machine.

Why We Like This:
  • Good solid drum machine with limits
  • Lots of alternate intros, fills, breaks, endings, and verses are possible
  • Good, free midi drum and bass tracks are readily available on the net
  • A really good unit for basic sound backing
