This mount is for the Rode Podcaster and Procaster. It simply mounts to the microphone's stand or boom arm, and then the microphone is placed inside the mount. It is SO much lighter than something like the shockmount for the Blue Yeti. It is more sensitive to impact noises that a shock mount is made to eliminate.
This shock mount really isolates the bumps and jolts and transmits nothing to the microphone. The stand mount for the microphone is an inch or two further up than it would be without it. The mount has a flexible rubber gasket that helps to absorb vibrations, and it also has a built-in pop filter to help reduce plosives.

If you are interested in a Rycote shock mount, buy the one that has four thumbscrews that grip the body of the mic itself. It is much better than Rode's sm6 shock mount (for the nt-usb microphone), since that mount partially blocks both knobs, but also makes using the 3.5mm headphone jack impossible unless you have a low-profile right angle connector. The entire mount is light, but the outer ring is a stiff reinforced plastic so it does the job effectively.
The SMR is mostly plastic, and the pop filter is thicker and stiff rather than flexible black fiber. The mic cord is attached directly beneath the nut. The knob itself is also hard plastic, so it's not easy to get a grip on what little you can reach with your fingertips. Rode's smr shockmount also comes with a high-quality removable metal pop filter and a base nut, making your new microphone setup complete.
