This sega popular game is capable of outshining several other products featured in this list in overall features. This game features about 20 dungeons on two different planets. The strongest part of this game is probably its storyline, which is both compelling and mature. The graphics are surprisingly strong for a Genesis title, and the audio isn't bad either. The sound fares a bit better, and Uwabo or "Bo" cooked up a very different soundtrack from the first title. The gameplay is definitely solid and the storyline is very well thought out.
The battle engine has some strengths in that you can choose the "fght" command which will let you fight on autopilot until you intervene. The monsters are interesting and the music is catchy as well. The music is great, easily reflecting the technological setting of the series.

Compared with other products by Sega, the sega genesis role playing game has a convenient design. It has to be one of the best rpg games ever. It has maps, monster stats and spell descriptions, along with tips and advice. There is a great story that really resembles old modules. There are a lot of neat settings like beastman caves, lizardmen villages, aztec temples, fire caverns, subterranean caverns and yes, even a dark elf city.
This game is a classic and well worth digging up. There is a great and useful guidebook for the game. There are a lot of cool spells and there are a lot of neat items to collect and use. It's not your usual rpg, and it does have a limited number of classes, but, it's fun and challenging nonetheless.

Battles are your basic (but revolutionary at the time) strategic turn based battle system, where each character moves once per turn. Like any good RPG game, it is the driving force. This is a game that all other games aspire to be and it is one that should not be missed by any rpg lover out there. The graphics on this game are somewhat limited to the 16 bit capabilities of the Sega Genesis. It is long, harrowing, challenging and wonderful.
It is easy to pick up and go. This is a great battle/adventure/strategy game.
Why We Like This:
You can gain money, story information, and purchase weapons and items
Plenty of characters to pick from to customize your party as you see fit
Tons of reason to replay this game, stays fun throughout the game

Best part: sega shining force costs comparatively low and it is available to ship in 24 hours. It's one of those classic "rescue-the-princess-from-the-evil-king-and-save-the-world" games, but with a very creative twist to it. It has a great storyline, and it has a much better battle style than any other rpg. The way it keeps your attention with plot twists and numerous new characters keeps this game head and shoulders above the rest.
There is sweet magical development and balanced capabilites. The map could stand to be a bit smaller though, so it is very easy to get lost there. There is actually a trove of quality art throughout the game. The development of characters throughout the game is sooo satisfying. These are extremely difficult to defeat, and your non-promoted weaponry won't cause them very much damage.
Why We Like This:
Awesome game for the retro rpg fan
Tactics based game that is fun and engaging with rpg like elements

The sega new phantasy star game should be able to handle its purpose and duties with ease. This game has a very involved story plot with very emotionally driven characters and outstanding manga art style for cutscenes. It has the BEST gameplay for an RPG, complete freedom to roam anywhere you want, do anything. The characters are well-rounded and easy to relate to, as you laugh, cry, explore & fight your way across three planets, two satellites, and about fifty different towns, villages, dungeons & caves. It also has THE BEST SOUNDTRACK of any.
The atmosphere created by the music, graphics, and story line has a unique majestic feel to it. It has a cool storyline, decent anime-style graphics, good music, and is tons of fun to play. This game uses a comic book style story telling strategy and it worked out and was actually a good compensation to the limits of the sega genesis. The vehicles are neat, too.
Why We Like This:

Compared with other products by Sega, the sega great game has a convenient design. It's a great game that spans over 3 generations. The gameplay here is your standard, old school rpg fare, buy some weapons, and kill some enemies to gain experience. The gameplay like the others is great, the caves are always changing, and your freedom to roam spans over 7 worlds. This gives you more stories, more endings, etc. The story itself is good, albeit it does have it's moments of awkward translations from the English localization team.
