The david allen sibley sibley guide to bird second edition should be able to handle its purpose and duties with ease. Sibley provides an unparalleled encyclopedia of plumages with concise and expert tips and maps for each species. The brilliant illustrations are uniquely suited for this edition, portraying accurate depictions of each bird. Yeah, it’s big, but has a durable flexible cover. The richer colors add new life to Sibley's paintings.
The pictures and photos are wonderful for ADVANCED BIRDERS THAT LOOK AT BIRDS IN THE FIELD. The use of drawings (like Peterson), in place of photographs, allows the author to highlight key features or a "typical" example without the individual variation and background noise that photos bring. It covers everything one needs to have. It is a great bird book for beginners or experts.

The david allen sibley best field guide gives the top-tier guide a run for their money by offering flagship specs at a much more affordable price. This guide to birds is excellent. It offers a compact presentation on every species of bird north of the Mexican border and is undoubtedly one of the most user-friendly guides ever developed. The illustrations are clear and colorful and key features for identification are easy to see and understand. The side-by-side comparisons and detailed drawings and commentary make it indispensable.
The book introductory material is a primer on how to look at and identify birds, beginning with the parts of a passerine, or songbird. It would open up more room for written material. The color quality (and accuracy) is much better in second and subsequent printings. It's a good coffeetable/ reference book for verifying birds seen in the field.

The jon l dunn sibley guide to bird second edition has killer features for the price point. If you are looking to ID birds (as opposed to learning about their behavior - for which the Stokes books are unparalleled) this is the book to get. It's a great field guide for bird identification. It's an easy reference to use, and it gives just enough information in a concise format.
Sibley also paints every bird perched AND in flight with upper and lower feather views. They said this was very easy to read and well organized compared to the more thorough (and much smaller writing) Audubon guide. This feature alone will help even newcomers to locate many birds with ease, even tho this guide might be considered advanced. The book is informative and very well printed.

Flight drawings and silhouettes for many birds
Drawings are among the clearest for differentiating birds
