This shifter is a bottom line shifter. It can be used on a 9 speed which is what it is intended. It mounts on the right side of the handlebar to operate the rear gear cluster. This is the normal configuration for gear shifters. The front chain wheels are controlled from the left gear shifter and rear on the right. This is 2 levels down the tier, however it offers quick crisp shifts. This shifter works very well when assembled properly.
