The metal must be soft because it gets dull really fast. It cuts a very smooth hole. The center tip goes about 1/4 inch deeper than the hole. It is used to make holes for a candle holder project. The beautiful wooden box has two tilting shelves with nylon bushings for each bit to hold them securely in place while keeping them organized and easily accessible. The circular shaft isn't nearly as nice as grooved shafts either. The bits come nicely finished and have a coating of protective oil on them and the case is very high quality. They hold an edge well with use and are easily sharpened with a hand sharpener. Even the case works as it holds the bits securely while making certain the bits don't touch each other.
