The rope provided in the kit is loosely braided nylon which does the trick, but will (IMHO) easily fray after frequent use.

The pulley sets are in individual bags as are the ropes. It comes with it is very long, so with the uneven angle when you hoist up the bike one side of the hooks will be down lower than the other so the bike hangs evenly. It can work if you put this system in the middle of the garage but you'll have to route the cord with an additional pulley that you'd need to purchase.
