Best Strap: Thule Kayak Tie Down Strap

We know from years of feedback from readers, customers and amazon sellers, what most people want in a convenient and appropriate strap. The product is exactly that - it's a simple product that hits all the right notes. The 3/8" ropes and ratchets are overkill for their purpose, and will potentially damage your polypropylene kayak, the type clearly shown in the picture. They distribute force SIDEWAYS as well as down when used in a V or X configuration, and they don't slip if you maintain them properly. This will save a lot more time spent routing and tying off the excess legnth on each rope each time you use the kit.

The size of these carabiner clips is a bit small and it is difficult (not impossible) to engage and disengage them from the black straps that go around the kayak's bow and stern. This limits further operation of the ratchets, and you'll have to go through this stowing operation each time you attach and remove the guys, a real pain that wastes lots of time and seems intolerable if mosquitoes are biting. This is a great solution for tying down the bow and stern of a canoe being carried on a car roof rack.

Why We Like This:
  • Easy & quick way to add bow & stern tie down for a kayak
  • Dependable and secure but rust prone in salty environments
  • A must have for kayak transport
  • Easy to install, easy to remove
