The strathmore tissue paper for oil pastel is suitable and reliable and fits well with your daily purpose. This paper allows you to blend colors easily. It has a toothy surface to which the chalk pastel can adhere to, as opposed to a smooth surface like bristol or some of the watercolor paper surfaces. The lightly coloured ground makes it possible to use less pastel to achieve a uniform background colour, allowing more direct colour layering in the painting.
The paper is porous and will take chalk pastels. It does have texture, designed especially when pastels cling to the surface. There are different colored pages through out the pad. It is great for learning pastel medium, dry and oil. It is available in most art stores as well as chain stores.
Why We Like This:
Good for drawing and keeping memories
Great for a beginner looking to experiment
Handles the blending and rubbing well and stays fairly firm during use

For a low asking price, canson good quality paper has managed to overwhelm their customers by packing as many features as they could. This selection contains four sheets each of the following colors. It does come with some gray sheets. The colors are great for the background of graphite drawings. The front is more textured, good for soft pastels. The size of the paper is great.
This paper is good quality and texture and would be good for certain techniques but it doesn't allow a lot of layers and has a texture to the paper that tends to show through. It is thick and porous, making all the pigment out of either water based markers or alcohol markers.
Why We Like This:
Great for charcoals and soft pastels
Light-fast paper that is colored at the pulp level

The canson tissue paper for oil pastel might be a relatively new release, but it's still nothing short of impressive this year. These gelatin-sized papers are 50 percent cotton, and resistant to fading. It is a light-fast paper that is colored at the pulp level. It has decent "tooth", with the downside being a pattern built in to the paper texture. The colors are a great bonus, and works as an underpainting.
It is made with 12 x 16 inch 98 pound/160 gram paper. The pad is really cool by the tones, the size and the texture is awesone, but the sheets of the block are not made entirely well, and the content overflowed from the flap of the cover. It gives choice for a different finish in the draw.
