These are excellent ferro rods and a must for any backpack, haversack, survival kit or automobile. They give great showers of sparks with a good carbon steel scraper. This rod is large enough to hold easily and produces a lot of sparks. It is also good as the striker and skill of the user.

These rods put out a good shower of hot sparks and are much easier to hold onto than the shorter rods. It is predrilled for a lanyard, slightly smaller than 550 cord but you can work it through. It allows for plenty of room for hand hold and stryker use.
