This is a pretty good map book to give general ideas of trails. It is not a fold out, but rather several pages, like a booklet. The pages are also waterproof and tear-resistant, so it should be durable enough, at least for the portion of the A.T. It covers. It is a booklet so it does not spread out like a traditional map.
This is an excellent map for anyone hiking the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. The maps, while small, contain plenty of elevation and named location information. It will be somewhat more practical than a folding map. This map is good for planning but not really for carrying with you on the trail as it is pretty heavy.
