Best With Road: Stephen G Hyslop transit Map Of The World
Buy on Amazon Some of these maps are meticulously detailed and quite amazing when you realize how primitive mapping is compared to today. This Atlas is tantalizing in that it includes some very fascinating maps. It's a nice selection of specific maps, strategic charts and some photos of different battles of the war. The over-sized volume is rich with content and while it could have benefited from being even larger (some of the historical map details are difficult to see), it is nonetheless a superb resource with plenty of “eye candy. The color coding on the maps often uses such similar colors that it is difficult to read and understand them. The book is more of a historical, learning tool than a compilation of personal experiences. The maps are excellently presented even though some are not as complete as one would like that is due to the state of the art of cartography at the time they were made. If you want to spark your kids' interest in history, this would be a good book to use as it is far more than a dry recital of dates and names and places. Why We Like This:
- Featuring maps, photographs, documents, and eyewitness accounts
- Covers lots of ground in a very efficient manner
- Awesome collection of maps and historical information

Best For classrooms: DK transit Map Of The World
Buy on Amazon The dk transit map of the world's material feels more premium than its price would suggest. Sturdily hardbound with a thick, matte-textured dustcover, this book doesn't just beautify your coffee table but is also a worthwhile addition to your reference bookshelf, too. It's a high-quality hardcover with high-quality pages and a solid design. The clever mix of arresting and obscure images and maps with more well known pictures does make this true to the original purpose of a coffee table book, something that visitors might want to pick up and browse through. The maps and pictures are lively and fascinating, and the text is well written and the literary exposition develops and complements the visual material well. It comes with much useful info that the "visual tours" help make up for the smaller map size with close up pictures. It is good to be reminded (and to be able to show children) that maps are much more than scientific, one-dimensional representations of simple reality. This is more of a book to check out at the library, enjoy it for a bit, and then turn it back in.Why We Like This:
