The vic firth retractable wire brush has killer features for the price point. If you're a jazz drummer, these brushes are indispensable in your tool kit. They are very "classic" in that they have a lot of spring in the wires and a fairly wide fan-out. It runs the entire spectrum of the brush palette. It is easy to open and close, are very comfortable to hold, and generally work very well. The handle is hard, which makes it easy to incorporate a clave sort of effect on the rim of the snare.

The Handles are light with sufficient balance that they will not fatigue you on a brush-only gig. They come in a nice re-usable. It is good for drumset and concert uses as well.

This brush is advertised as being ideal for preventing brush wires from catching on new, coated drum heads. It is designed with drumming legend steve gadd. The design of the angle brush works really well on drum coated heads. They do their job with an exceptionally crisp sound. Thanks to the bending of the tip, it is very easy to handle and produces a good sound. The radiused wire allows the brush to glide easily across the drum head.

These heads have a very subtle, calf skin like texture (the Skyntone even simulates pore holes) that are good for ballads with regular brushes, but sometimes too subtle for other styles. It provides the player with better articulation and a more natural attack.

Why We Like This:
  • A great design and a smooth feel
  • Ideal design that creates a softer touch and sound
  • Terrifically loud, tough to collapse / retract
  • Brushes for hard or soft playing
