The three piece airlocks are easier to clean and simpler to fill, and require less frequent refills due to the larger volume. It is allows for gases to escape without external agents (fruit flies/gnats) to reach the must. It does not make your drink carbonated.
For those of you not very familiar with Airlocks, this is a device that is needed when brewing things like beer, wine, meads, etc. These make good stocking stuffers for home brewers, as having extras on hand means you can toss one out if it breaks or gets too gunked up for your liking, and they're inexpensive.

The rubber stopper is about 3 cm/1-1/4 inch in diameter and fits a standard glass gallon jug. It is tapered for a better seal holding the airlock securely in place. If you use the jugs for the water bubblers, this fits perfectly into the lid hole on those. It is accessible and owns the playing field.
The airlock is plastic. It works well and it is very easy to tell when the bubbles are bubbles. It is a curved lip on the bung to stop it from accidentally sliding into the fermenter.

Next on the list, we've got yet another airlock that manages to win our hearts. It's the zazolyne wine bung airlock and it's widely considered as airlock that has the most suitable features. This new type of dust cap has a zigzag design on the surface and will not slide when opened. There are 3 buckles inside, press it down gently, you can close it with a snap, pull it up and rotate to open it. The bung plugs work great on 1 gallon and 1 1/2 gallon wine jugs jugs. The lid does not need to be drilled as there is a gap around it, which allows the gas to escape.
The stoppers are very flexible and fit both 1Gal and 4L jugs. The wine is fermenting perfectly and no air is getting back in the jar. It works for intended use and also works well for ginger bug.
