The look and feel of this planes are consistent with the high quality we're used to from the rest of Stanley's lineup. This solid little metal plane is a good quality tool which works great for shaving thin strips off of balsa leading/trailing edges or any other "with the grain" soft wood trimming need. The little blade takes a fine edge, and this thing shaves way outside of its weight class. It would probably be fine for poplar and other lightweight (non-ply) woods, although harder woods will no doubt dull the blade faster.

Setting the iron by hand is fairly easy to do with the thumbscrew mechanism. It works well for trimming edges of click lock flooring. The sole is flattened on wet/dry sandpaper first and to remove the black finish. The sole is black powdercoated and as it becomes beat up, will not be flat and true,so as inexpensive as it is, just get a new one.
