The look and feel of this blocks are consistent with the high quality we're used to from the rest of Arches's lineup. This is a very high quality watercolor block indeed. It is the cream of the crop of watercolor paper, so no complaints. It features a much heartier texture with grooves and ridges that provide that slightly rougher look typically associated with watercolor. The paper has consistent, even "tooth" and hold the watercolor beautifully while also providing you time to work the paint as needed for blending/blotting, etc. It would work well for Prismacolor wax premiere pencils or Caran Ache Luminance pencils.
These blocks contain 20 sheets of natural white, acid free, 100% cotton paper, and are glued on all 4 sides. It is good for flow of colors, can tolerate masking fluid well, and also adhesive tapes. It is nice to have and use for quick sketches and easy to carry with you.
Why We Like This:
Good quality and easy to use
Doesn't absorb water too fast so you can move colors around for excellent blending
Great for multiple techniques, so very versatile
Works great, doesn't have to be taped down to dry flat

We know from years of feedback from readers, customers and amazon sellers, what most people want in a convenient and appropriate block. The product is exactly that - it's a simple product that hits all the right notes. If your child is gifted, and somewhat accomplished as a watercolorist, they will find Arches paint surfaces to be a pleasant step up. This is a nice block of decent sized watercolor paper that holds the color and stays stretched until the paper is dry and you're ready to cut it from the block. It is great for watercolor painting, very forgiving on little mistakes, and absorbent.
This is a very durable and wonderful surface to paint on. The rough texture adds all sorts of possibilities for the application of paint. This is a useful, innovative product. It is great for traveling and ready to use as is. The finished painting is ready to be framed after it is completed.
Why We Like This:
Nice quality paper, heavy keeps shape
Nice watercolor paper for beginners or intermediate watercolor painters

Compared with other products by Arches, the arches watercolor paper has a convenient design. Arches paper is thirsty, holds a lot of water, and it takes a lot of brush work without breaking down, or warping. It is made with natural cotton fibers on a cylinder-mold machine. It doesn't require taping, doesn't buckle and takes paint better than cheaper paper. The glue sides help it from buckling.
This paper is the best of the best, full stop. The paper block is separated from the cardboard that it is mounted to so that the actual paper block is loose inside the green cover. The sheets hold up well to the watercolors and have no discoloration. It’s money well spent for excellent watercolor paper.
Why We Like This:
Nicely textured paper and a pleasure to use
Blend, bleed, lift pigment easily without piling
Larger than the mat opening so that the paper edge is behind the mat

The arches hot press should be able to handle its purpose and duties with ease. This is a fantastic paper for a beginner or a professional. It stands up to sketching and light erasing (use a gum eraser so you don't remove the sizing), it performs to high standards, it takes layers of colour well, allowing either light washy coverage, or deep and vibrant colours in your piece. It retains its structure even under moderate scrubbing with the brush much better than cold-pressed.
The top cover sheet needs to be removed to reveal the white paper of the block. It is easy to use, no buckling or paper stretching. The paper is high quality & you’ll be able to make changes with your non staining watercolors, like re-wetting & blot off areas you don’t like.
