It handles water and gel medium quite well. It has strength and thickness to not warp (much) when water media are applied. The paper is slightly less white (slight yellow cast) than the paper of the cover. It is great for polychromos color pencils.
It has a rougher texture and watercolor moves differently across it. It is hard to handle gradients on this paper, however the paper is of excellent quality and illustrations that are done with thin layers look great. The paper does not stand up to any rubbing and fast pills. It is really good if you want to apply a lot of water and then drop in the paint, as you get really nice flow.

This is a block of paper, glued on all four sides. This grain drinks a lot of moisture from a pen, holds soft pencil extremely well, but also does not erase cleanly if you make any indentation in the paper, as with a hard pencil lead. It takes a lot of water without buckling, and can take scrubbing as well.
This paper is made in China, the sizing is not vegan (animal-sourced gelatin), and the paper is 100% cotton, 140 lbs. It's relatively easy to get off, too, despite that it's all one block. This is a good block, the paper doesn't curl or distort when really wet, and it holds paint well but doesn't dry instantly allowing for more time to work. This paper would be fine for fine ink drawing, such as felt tip pens, or any dry media that doesn't require ultrafine detail.
Why We Like This:
Very soft but doesn't hold a lot of water
Really nice block of watercolor paper
Lovely, hot pressed surface, clear glue sided watercolor block
Not too absorbent, tough enough to deal with repeated scrubbing and reworking
