Best Overall: Diamine Fountain Pen

Diamine Fountain Pen
Buy on Amazon

We know from years of feedback from readers, customers and amazon sellers, what most people want in a ink. This product is exactly that - it's a simple product that hits all the right notes. The Diamine Oxblood is definitely a crimson ink, trending toward brown. It’s the color of sacrificial ichor staining an unholy altar in a cyclopean sepulcher. It is made from natural dyes. It writes smoothly, flows well and produces uniform results. It almost never feathers, and it doesn't bleed through unless your very heavy with it on the same.

The color tone is very authentic and never being boring.

Why We Like This:
  • Beautiful dark red for vampy/halloween vibes
  • Looks good on white paper and fantastic on cream
  • Gorgeous color, but not water resistant
  • Great replication of 'olde timey' style writing

Best For drawing: Diamine Smooth Writing Ink

Diamine Smooth Writing Ink
Buy on Amazon

Compared with other products by Diamine, the diamine smooth writing ink has a convenient design. The shimmer is beautiful in bright light. The gold really catches the eye as it dries and people get way too excited when they notice it. The silver settles quickly so be ready to fill as soon as you shake the bottle. The silver settles quickly so be ready to fill as soon as you shake the bottle, and it will wash off your hands in a day or so.

The shimmering seas could use a bit more blue, but the gold is great, especially in a flex pen or a medium/bold nib. This ink is that it's pretty water soluble. The purple of this ink is dark enough that you can use it for every day and it won't look too 8th grade. It looks really cool despite being darker than expected.

Why We Like This:
  • Nice color with perfect amount of sparkle
  • Extreme shimmer, beautiful ink, smooth writing
  • Nice ink that flows well in fountain pens
  • Absolutely gorgeous ink, in shimmering seas

Best For watercolor: Diamine Calligraphy Ink

Noodler's inks retain their original line while bleeding just enough to create a smooth wash. Mixing the inks produces new tints like a darker amber by mixing in a few drops of oxblood. It's more ink than some people would ever use, for very low money and it's good.

The ink is well suited to fountain pens and having the variety pack lets you try out several colors without spending lots of money on just one. They are not at all waterproof and act a little bit like watercolors. If you're using a syringe filler or an eyedropper, this will work. All of these inks are pretty nice besides the Amber. It's suitable for all brands of fountain pen.

Why We Like This:
  • Would recommend for calligraphy and fountain
  • A basic collection of fountain pen inks of good quality
  • Flows wonderfully in fountain pens, watercolor brush and glass dip pens
  • Not too garishly vivid but still colorful and very deep pigment

Best Quality Ink: Diamine Favorite Red Ink

Diamine Favorite Red Ink
Buy on Amazon

The diamine favorite red ink's high-end materials makes sure that it ages well with use. It’s a deep, deep red and it flows effortlessly. It's brighter than Oxblood. It is more saturated and vibrant than a j. herbin rouge opera and darker than a j. herbin 1670 hematite. They provide a great palette of colors to choose from to make your writing unique.

This ink is gorgeous, and though it might look like a plastic container this specific one has a glass bottle. It's dark enough to be very legible and reasonable for everyday, non-professional writing. It stands out without hurting your eyes, unlike Diamine Wild Strawberry or Sheaffer Red. If you want it to stand out, this is a great pen.

Why We Like This:
  • Looks great from a medium nib pen
  • Flows great from converter to nib without skipping or dry spots
  • Perfect color red with a consistency flows nicely onto the page

Best For work Use: Diamine Nice Ink

Diamine Nice Ink
Buy on Amazon

Best part: diamine nice ink costs comparatively low and it is available to ship in 24 hours. This ink is good for normal writing, not just artwork. The colors are subdued, making them good for work use. The bottles are thin plastic. It is great to have something other than the usual black or blue. The bottles are not too small so you can get a few refills from each.

Why We Like This:
  • Ideal as a calligraphy starter ink
  • Fast drying, smooth flowing, water-based, non-toxic and ph neutral
  • Good flow without feathering, even on regular bond paper

Best quick drying Ink: Diamine Fountain Pen Ink

Diamine Fountain Pen Ink

The Diamine fountain pen ink is a water based non waterproof ink. It's the perfect color to fill a Copper Esterbrook pen, and it behaves very nicely in that pen. While this is not water-resistant, it is a gorgeous ink with a lot of shading if used in a broad-nibbed, stub, or flexible pen. It also provides a pretty nice lighter water-color-like effect when smudged, if art is your thing.

The color is more of a new copper than an ancient copper, with a strong orange tone to it. It is made from all natural dyes. The ink is (understandably, since it's fountain pen ink) a little messy when used with a ruling pen or other pens you have to dip, but it does work and provides a rich color and tactile texture to the page.

Why We Like This:
  • Colors can be diluted or blended to give a multitude of effects
  • Works good with ruling pens, too
  • Ph neutral ink made from all natural dyes

It is suitable for all brands of fountain pen and ideal as a calligraphy starter ink. The golden sands is the closest to writing with gold. This gets a good amount of shimmer.

Why We Like This:
  • Shimmering writing ink for fountain pens in 50ml glass bottle
  • Good investment for long term

Best reddish Ink: Diamine Calligraphy starter Ink

The diamine calligraphy starter ink is capable of outshining several other products featured in this list in overall features in its price range. The Aurora Borealis is a cool toned teal that writes beautifully in EF to M. That said, there's nothing extraordinary about it. It is a great way to get 3 inks. They are securely packaged and delivered within the expected dates. It's a nice reddish ink.

Why We Like This:
  • Great coverage, excellent shadow and a nice sheen
  • New and hot release

We would, of course, be remiss if we didn't mention diamine calligraphy starter ink for regular usage. This ink is not supposed to be water resistant but rather it is meant to be re-wettable for special effects and it most definitely is re-wettable for special effects. It can be used for writing or art. The colors are vibrant, relatively quick to dry, seldom needing to be blotted before turning the page. These are special inks that offer interesting effects.

Why We Like This:

  • Delivers what they promise
