Best part: stanley low angle plane costs comparatively low and it is available to ship in 24 hours. This is a solid, inexpensive tool that every handyman should have. It has a fully adjustable cutter that rests at 21 degrees and adjusts to 13-1/2 degrees, for less vibration, more control, and a finer finish. It provides long-lasting protection to add to that it is 6 inches long with a 1-3/8-inch cutter. The brass adjusters feel, and the lateral adjuster is much easier to set the cutter with. It is great with sandpaper or stones.

The block plane makes a great addition to any contractorscarpenters kit bag, or even for the fine woodworker too as long as you are prepared to spend that. The fit/finish is flawless and the performance is great. The blade is barely machine sharp.

Why We Like This:
  • Feels like a tool working right and that is satisfying
  • Pretty good weight and comfortable to grip
  • Relieving corners, cutting dowels flush and etc

Stanley has been making great plane for years, thanks to a combination of clever design and appropriate materials. It's a decent block plane for smoothing out small areas or working end grain on butcher blocks. Its hardened, tempered steel construction gives you a precision-ground cutter edge that's durable and reliable, and a cutter mechanism that moves with your needs for complete manageability. It scythes through the paint in seconds and gets all the way down to the wood without even risking getting through the first layer.

It provides long-lasting protection and it is designed to accomplish tasks efficiently. The lower angle does help in the finishing process and if you hold it at a 45 degree skew it does a fine job for those smaller areas where you don't want to use a larger plane. The adjustable throat is a must for avoiding tearout.

Why We Like This:
  • Love all the adjustments and ease of use
  • A decent blade, an adjustible throat and solid steel and brass parts
  • New and hot release

If you often find yourself confused about appropriate and satisfactory plane, this product should be your first option for buying. This is a good tool, in woodworking circles, which is kind of like stating that the sky is blue. Its fully machined and polished double-iron cutter and lever give you precise control over the piece at hand. It does a fairly good job on soft woods, doesn't load up and has a long enough foot to give you good results on long pieces.

This professional-grade plane also boasts a quick-release cam lock that makes iron removal easy, plus high-impact polymer handles and knobs that are contoured and polished to give you a great grip that permits true accuracy and long use without fatigue. It has a frog adjustment screw right underneath the brass iron adjustment wheel. The blade and mechanism are adequate for the job after tuning. This is great for serious, yet new, people to hand planing.

Why We Like This:
  • Takes out paper-thin sheets or chips, as desired
  • Great value, works out of the box, but could use sharpening
  • Works good after quite a bit of tuning
  • Ground cutter edge durability that lasts long and true

The small stanley wood plane has killer features for the price point. This is a wonderfully solid, elegantly engineered treat of a tool to use. The gear makes it easy to adjust the height of the blade. It takes about 3 hours of sanding to get it flat and remove the milling marks. The cutting edge needs to be sharpened as it has a few small burrs and a small chip on it. This plane works fine for shaving doors. The adjustment for the blade is pretty good too, and the blade comes perfectly sharp. It will last quite a long time.

Why We Like This:
  • Rough castings and not nearly as good machining, but still a functional tool
  • Nice even shavings, easy to use, couldn't be happier
  • Very heavy and sturdy, works great
  • Probably perfect for an occasional use, such as maybe a door that sticks
