Not everyone likes to purchase ink for their daily purpose, but the noodler's ink waterproof fountain ink would be an anomoly. This ink is blue/black and truly a work of art. It has a very nice color on decent paper. The color is a grayish blue (sort of like the color used in different Union uniforms during the American Civil War) that works well in a professional setting as well as for journaling, diaries, and so on.
The flow is great, the permanency is awesome and the drying time is not bad. It can dry out a bit if left uncapped for a few minutes without writing, but restarts easily. Why We Like This:
- Great ink, you will love the color and it's very water resistant
- Very smooth, high saturation, exceeded expectations
- Nice ink for a wet fountain pen
Best For Luther work: Higgins waterproof Fountain Ink

Compared with other ink in this category, the higgins waterproof fountain ink has a convenient design. A combination of micro-pulverized pigments and black dyes make up this water-based ink. It takes about 2-3 coats for a fretboard to look like ebony, and some of it will rub off onto your fingers when you play. The Hawthorn Tree is done with a fine mist, and the shading on the Birch trees is pulled from the tree's left side, inward using a slightly damp brush. The oil will prevent the ink from bonding to the wood.
This product works excellent on fretboards in the early manufacturing stages, but is more difficult to use on fretboards that have already been assembled and played. It also gets on everything, it’s like water, and it runs everywhere. The Matte finish also works great. It's black enough, and a decent consistency for fountain pens, and not as likely to clog them as some other inks, but it is not thick or jet black. Why We Like This:
- Dried nicely, no smudging or staining of fingers
- Medium drying time produces a matte sheen
- Non-waterproof, free-flowing professional-grade ink creates beautiful reproduction quality work

The noodler's waterproof fountain ink is satisfactory and appropriate and fits well with your regular usage. This ink is very well behaved on check paper, polished cardstock, and good quality rhodia paper. It can be used in a cross century ii pen with a medium nib, it flows easily, writes smoothly, dries quickly and has an excellent color. It doesn't jump out too much. This color is a deep blue with some green undertones. It's a darker version of turquoise but heavier on the blue side.
This ink flows nicely and doesn't feather easily but as it dries it fades to a MUCH lighter than when you put it on the paper. The ink comes in an attractive glass bottle and when they say 3 ounces they mean it.Why We Like This:
- Tested permanent in comparison with noodler's permanent black and blue lux
- A beautiful shade of dark blue that is definitely blue
- Permanent ink and it dries quickly
- Bulletproof, vibrant, nice shading, flows wells
